A man so sweet I loved him, he hid is pain of care. He quarreled with the journey, a lonesome road he faired. A life that's spent pretending, a heart he mends with ail. Though still he's left with nothing but a life that's left derailed. As lonesome as a memory, that feeds one's trust with fail. He paints a life of envy, each shade another veil. To hide the truth pretending, the tear stains never there. Another day, another drink, another pain despairs. I wish we'd stop pretending his heart could ever heal. Believe that circumstance would prove love help him find his freedom. From this sick and twisted journey. If he trust me just to love him. And the part of me that loves you now, knows I could have never loved you. And the part you played, you held, you stayed; a lonely soul I've left behind. A distant part you've left in the past, a memory fades before you. Oh a town found south in those lonely eyes, a faded soul, a lonely, lonely lie...

about

The Oak & Alley chapter is Irvine's first release as a composer and band leader. A full length album concisting of seven original compositions, the album features Manitoba musicians Micaylee Rodyniuk on vocals, Matt Walden on trumpet, Will Bonness on Piano, Karl Kohut on Bass, and Graydon Cramer on drums.

The album depicts the lives and stories of gay men from around the world; presented in an instrumental/ lyrical setting. Seven years in the making, each track represents a key figure in understanding gay culture and its evolution into the modern age.

The ensemble utilizes a variety on woodwinds, brass, vocals, and rhythm section instruments to paint life to the various compositions. Elements of folk music, traditional jazz styles, western classical composition techniques, and indie musical genres are woven together; generating imagery through tone, textures, and counterpoint in instrumentation.

Thanks to the mentors Greg Gatien, Jeff Driskill, and Jon Gordon in their guidance over the years. To family and friends, and the men who shared their stories. To Mike Falk (Paintbox Recording) and Roberta Landreth (album artwork) in helping bring this album to life. I am forever greatful.
